A panoramic view of the Sandy Creek area where the Moore ranch was situated and where Dad and his brothers and sisters were born and raised. After Granddad Moore died (Rueben McKay Moore), my dad and his brother Corbin decided to run the ranch. That is when we moved from the Matlock place on the Lemhi, to the Sandy Creek ranch. Corbin, (Corbin James Moore), and Aunt Faith (Faith Alfreda Trowbridge) and family were living in Granddad’s house, so Dad and my Uncle Bill Cannon (married to Bessie Moore) built a log home for us. It wasn’t fancy, but it was sturdy and our own!
As the picture shows, it was great country and afforded plenty of room for us all to ride around the ranch and foothills.
Roy was in his early teens, and did a lot of riding for the ranch, and even some for neighbors. My riding for pleasure was pretty sketchy. Mother wasn’t too well and needed me at the house.
Ray, (Ray Bradley Moore Sr.) Bertie (Lora Bernice Moore) and Thena (Ethena Jewel Moore) did whatever their age and size allowed. (Besides decimating the gopher population in the hay fields, climbing hills, trees, robbing Magpie nests and giving our cousins across the field a bad time.) All in all, it was a great place in which to live and grow up. However, my love and best memories were of the ranch on the Lemhi, the Matlock Ranch.
